Talksplosion Episode 12 "Special 2007 Year End Music and Comics Wrap Up"

This week on Talksplosion, our Year End Extravaganza!

Sam's Top Ten Albums of 2007

6. Kanye West - Graduation
5. Burial - Untrue
4. MIA - Kala
3. Battles - Mirrored
2. Panda Bear - Person Pitch
1. LCD Soundsystem - Sounds of Silver

Jeremiah's Top Ten Albums of 2007

8. Rotator - Choose your Poison, Mine is Hardcore

5. Aesop Rock - None shall pass
4. Team Shatek - Pale Fire
3. Milanese - Adapt
2. Spank Rock & Benny Blanco - ...are Bangers and Cash
1. Brother Reade - Rap Music

Sam had a very good year, Jeremiah wasn't that impressed.

Graphic Novel of the Year

Ultimates Vol 2 - Mark Millar & Brian Hitch (Oversized Hardcover)

This shows the difference about being a show that doesent cover monthly comics. We loved this graphic novel to death but we might be alone in our 2007 pick. For one, if people did enjoy this as it was coming out they arent thinking about it in late 2007 at all. Secondly, many people dropped off this series back in 2006 due to lateness issues. As people who like our Marvel work in the oversized hardcovers we are able to look at the whole run as one big beautiful story and (mostly) ignore the lateness. When this 13 issue run is taken as a whole in this beautiful oversized format it is without a doubt the crowing achievement of Mark Millars career so far, and a resounding validation for the creation of the Ultimate Universe.

PS check out the awesome 2007 mash up outro by our very own DJ Strap-On!

Talksplosion Episode 11 "In which we finally fully become a dubstep podcast"

powered by ODEO

Samuel SOW: Wu Tang Clan - Unpredictable
Jeremiah SOW: Scorn - The Palomar

Sam likes the new Wu Tang but doesnt say that very clearly.

Jeremiah cant tell if JK Broadrick is ripping of Mick Harris for the title of proto-dubstep master or what.
Sam didnt love the Scorn song though, on re-listening, its not that bad.
Sam gets defensive about JK Broadrick.

Sam tries to convince Jeremiah on Burial once and for all. "Totally get all ideas of dancefloor out of your head" and then I play the most dancey song on the album. IRONIC conversation at its best. (Its a really bad argument honestly but Burial is good stuff and while I was annoying here the album still in my head should appeal to Jeremiah. )

COMICS

Sam and Jeremiah agree that X-Factor is one of the best classic X-Men style comic books in ages. if you like Noir, mutants stuff, and Peter David pick it up

Talksplosion Episode 10 "Special Edition: Ultimate Ramblefest"

powered by ODEO

So this is the second of our Ramblefest episodes this one is about the past and future of our favorite mainstream superhero universe Marvels Ultimate Universe. People who want to read some superheros without the crap while being written very well, you should listen in.

Next week I think we are back on track with regular episodes.

Episode 9 "Son of Whoops"

powered by ODEO

Jeremiahs SOW: Cex - Bolton Hill
Samuel SOW: Sightings - A Rest

This episode also had some major tech issues. No comics this week just the picks.

The Cex EP Exotical Privates is really good btw (and I'm not just saying that!)

we really need better outro's

Episode 8 "Special Edition: Definitive Ramblefest"

powered by ODEO

So this is a first of what I am calling our Ramblefest episodes.

When we decide to talk in length about a topic and wrap up all our opinions in one huge ramble. Its kind of a mess.

Losta good music on this one, but if you dont care about underground hip hop maybe you should wait for episode 9.

Episode 7 "Whoops"

Episode 6 "A level of rediculousness that most things dont reach"

powered by ODEO

Jeremiah's SOW: Kid Camaro - Dusk
Samuel's SOW: Tiny Vipers - Forest on Fire

Oh jesus I love badminiton

We agreed on Jeremiahs track, from his "friend" Kid Camaro

Jeremiah doesnt like CD-R's. I only put out CD-R's so we are at am impass. I guess we werent talking about our own labels but I am getting rid of that rule. We both run indie labels.

We both know Jesy Fortino who is Tiny Vipers, and we both like her but I felt that she could have in general, done better than this CD. Listen to her recently repackaged demos for why i feel like that. I dont think Jeremiah ever picked the Tiny Vipers CD up, hes a horrible friend.

I cant even understand what I was trying to say about the Shins

Yellow Swans - Decension Yellow Swans: IS GREAT! its the precursor to At All Ends. It is out on CD, Vinyl, and MP3.

Comics:

Sam is reading DMZ from Brian Wood on Vertigo. He kinda likes it.

Jeremiah read Spiderman: Reign, he kinda liked it and then some how compairs it to Dark Knight Returns.

Jeremiah starts a Spiderman rant....it all sounds like crap.

Endangered Species booo

Hulk is dumb

I didnt mean Jews are racist across the board, im saying that it is possible for Jews to be racist even though they likely targets of racism themselves.

Jeremiah organizes his comics chonologically I generally do it by writer. We discuss this at length.

Planetary/ Batman is hilarious.

Jeremiah nerds out about continuity here

Hulk is still dumb

Sentry is boring, BUT liked the white background pages of his story, I love Steve McNiven's art.

Jeremiah doesnt like Superman, but we agree the Seinfeld commercials are awesome

I dont know about Cable being dead I dont know where I heard that.

I also dont know how i supposedly know this stuff about Uncanny X-Men that I have never read.

All those Ultimate things i talk about i have since been caught up on and read. Most was OK we have an upcoming ramble fest on all of Ultimate stuff though.

Joe Mad - Battle Chasers, Ultimates 3

Fun Home is the greatest comic book ever!

Turns out that Iron Man, artist is who designed the whole Iron Man movie which actually looks great.
